“From Passion to Resurrection” encompasses the third and fourth “weeks” of the The Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius of Loyola. It offers an invitation to feel the depth of Jesus’ isolation, suffering and death before experiencing the joy of his resurrection — as well as the fullness of their own desire to serve God with unreserved love and devotion.

The Retreat

Before beginning this retreat, you should take a single prayer period to complete "Embracing the Fullness of Jesus’ Friendship", which presents a consideration of your friendship with Jesus Christ. You may find it helpful to review your notes from the first retreat before making this meditation so that your thoughts and prayers in that journey are clear in your consciousness as you look forward the future.

Before Proceeding Further

After completing your review of this retreat, and before proceeding to its follow-up exercises, devote a period of prayer to contemplating "Embracing the Adventure of Jesus' Friendship". Again, you may find it helpful to review your notes from this retreat before making this meditation so that your thoughts and prayers are clear in your consciousness as you look forward to the future.

After completing this meditation, consider the following statement from
Like the Lightning by David Fleming:

“As we enter into conversation with Jesus on the cross, we are seeing and hearing and feeling Jesus's response to the sin and evil before him. In his love for us, which by our faith we have learned is what truly nailed him to the cross, he is the first to feel ashamed of our human behavior and he is the one who is left confused by hatred and rejection of his love. In our conversation Jesus shares with us this grace of shame and confusion. We are being gifted to see and respond to evil and sin the way God sees and responds to evil and sin.”

What ideas or emotions do these evoke in you? Summarize these thoughts and feelings at the end of your retreat notes. Then, return to the Part 2 start page to consider these retreats in general.
